Ingredients: Tequila, tonic water, ice
Tonic and Tequila is a popular beverage from Northern Europe commonly drunk in parts of Stockholm. It is often referred to as a TT, getting its name from its ingredients, and sometimes it is called a TnT. This has occasionally lead to confusion at the bar, especially in Britain where there is the popular drink G&T, a gin and tonic.
The Tonic and Tequila is made by pouring a measure of tequila over ice in a highball glass and adding the tonic to taste, with a slice of lemon or lime to garnish – although some perfectionists insist that the addition of the garnish alters the original concept of the drink.
The Tonic and Tequila was first made in a bar in Stockholm by bartenders Christian and Oscar. When they realized that they had ran out of gin to make G&Ts with one night in 2008, and having plenty of tequila, they experimented to produce the TnT. Variations exist where the drink is served in a tumbler instead of a highball glass, giving you a short TnT. There is also the Tequonic which includes a splash of lime juice and has the drink served in an Old Fashioned glass.
This drink has an alcohol by volume level (ABV) of 28.4%.
In popular movie culture the drink makes an appearance in John Woo’s film “Hard Boiled” in which the lead character, Inspector Tequila, is famed for his love of the drink of the same name.
