Flaming a Cocktail

This technique is used for certain cocktail recipes. Flaming a drink is a wonderful way to provide an attractive presentation for the drink. The process is fairly simple. First, make sure the glass that is to be used is warm. Set the glass aside and begin preparing the drink. When the cocktail is made, it is now time to fire it up.

Using the alcohol with the highest proof, pour some into a spoon. Take a long necked lighter or kitchen match and ignite the spoon. Now, pour the flaming liquid directly into the cocktail. Make sure to serve the drink as soon as it is poured. Flaming drinks must be served immediately to have the full effect.

While flaming drinks are impressive to look at, make sure to use caution. The drink should be extinguished before consumption. This may sound like common sense, but some consumers may already have had a few drinks.

There are many drinks that call for flaming in the recipe. These include Apple Passion, B-52 Original, Burning Sky, Flaming Banana, M16, Molotov and Sweet November. Flaming a drink creates a stunning visual appeal. The heat also adds to the sensation when consuming the cocktail.

Again, it is extremely important to exercise caution when preparing or consuming any flaming drink. The flame has a wonderful effect, but it can be taken to another degree. To add a little sparkle to the flamed cocktail, twist an orange, lime or lemon rind over the flame
